So, skype now works fairly well, we can actually look on-line without it taking forever, and hopefully these posts will have just gotten a whole lot easier. Here’s the trial run with the new Net@Home setup. Today was a great day, I was busy from 5:30am to 8:00pm with work here at Karibu Center. We had a wonderful time with the program kids and I made my first batch of Githeri. It was delicious I might ad. Githeri is a staple here, Beans and Maize. Did I already talk about this here…if so sorry for the repetition, it’s been a long day. Sound like an easy thing to prepare right…not so. I spent 2 hours sorting, cleaning, and picking stones out of about 20 KG of grains last night. Then up at 5am this morning to get the whole thing cooking. After soaking overnight it has to cook for about 3 hours. Any idea how long it takes 15 galloings of water to boil. A LONG time. Githeri is seasoned with some grilled onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and salt. A very simple recipie for a very tasty meal. A complete protein with lots of vitamins, minerals, and carbs. Recommended by the W.H.O. BTW for feeding programs in severe poverty regions (heard that from a local NGO director, haven’t read it myself so don’t quote me).

OK, that’ll have to do for now. We talked to the Stoughts on skype tonight, it was so fun to see your faces. I almost hugged the internet guy when he left. It is such a nice feeling to know we can communicate better. It’s like being rescued from a desert Island. After 6 weeks of very little direct contact with anyone we’re looking forward to talking again. Remember, 10 hour difference from PDX, see you on skype:) Ian
