“Look Spidey”

As can only be said by a 2 year old looking like this:

Umm, we don’t watch Spiderman yet.
I’m crediting this to the influence of cousin Alek who is always fully decked out as Spiderman or Batman.

Some days are normal.  Some days are just plain crazy.

Yesterday was crazy.

Eli and Lucy spend a lot of time lately playing “doggy” and all of the activities that go along with pretend doggy.  Like napping, eating, drinking, hiding.

I found the “doggies” in the kitchen drinking:

When Ian saw the pictures he said, “No wonder my shoes were all messed up!”

Then we met Megan…a wonderful 25 year old who will  be going to Kenya to work in the Karibu Centre with us!  She just graduated from PSU with a degree in Real Estate Development…but she works as a wine steward currently at World Market.  I think that is what Ian loved most about her….that and how she kept saying our kids were adorable…even when they weren’t.  I think that we’ll all get along just great.

Oh, and Carla our foster daughter who has been on her own for a while now… turned 22!

We are blessed.

Getaway

Here are some photos from my fabulous weekend away to a women’s retreat last weekend.  My favorite part was that the speaker was a 41 year old woman who has a 2 year old and twin 15 month olds–all naturally conceived after being infertile for 8 years.  She was a good sport about the altered state of her unrecovered body.

This is what Erika looked like all weekend:

We had wonderful weather at the beach…just a sprinkle the last night.  Then, on the way home, we stopped for a snapshot of some winter wonderland we ran into on the drive.

Awww...don't we look like we like each other?

We really had a great time.  Congratulations to Natalie for her first time away from her girls!  You made it!

Funny day….

We have wonderful friends…adults and kids alike.  One of our “friend” families is the Stoughtons…home to Ashley (stb 6), Abby (3) and baby Charlie (almost 2 months) or “baby Chai” as Lucy calls him.  We were thrilled to convince them to move in 4 houses down from us.  That’s another story for another day.

Ashley the soon to be 6 year old is renowned for wearing summer attire the entire year long.   Strappy things, tops and shoes included.

Today Lucy (our 2 year old) says, “I be Ash-ee today.  Wear flip-flops”  Hilarious.  Need I note that it snowed here yesterday and we are hovering in the 30’s?

Also, I went shopping with the kids before lunch at Winco.  You never know what you might see at Winco…case in point, the girl with gum post from early December.

Today, as I’m loading the car with the groceries (proud that I have both kids buckled in and they’re not running like banshees)…I hear the Ford Explorer next to me beep and I think, huh, they must be unlocking it.  Then, the engine starts.

I look over, there isn’t a person in that car and it just turned on, and revved it’s engine!   Do we have Kit here or what?

Then a lady shows up and explains how she started it by remote.  Well, I knew that those types of gadgets were out there, but had never really seen one.

The funny part of this story are all of the visions that went through my mind.  Eli and Lucy getting the remote and randomly starting our car from inside the house, one starting the car from the driveway while the other geared it up and drove over God knows what…you get the picture.  They would have the time of their lives with that one.

I think I might need a break.  Oh wait, I just got back from a women’s retreat at the beach all weekend.  Maybe I’ll settle for a nap.

Holidays….

Just wanted to say that I haven’t forgotten to make some posts from the holidays….just haven’t downloaded any photos yet, and a holiday blog without photos just isn’t really worth it.

So, it’ll come soon.

Hanging skin

We’ve had a busy Holiday season.  Visits with family from Idaho, Virginia, Germany and soon Montana.

Visits from the “Arctic Blast”

And visits to see the kids’ great-grandma in her new home just down the street.

She didn’t fair so well after leaving the hospital and moving back to her independent living (the independent part was giving her trouble).

Anyhow, we visited here as a family last night.  She was lying in her bed in her approximately 200 sq. feet of living space.  Nicely done up 200 sq. feet of living space though.

Eli wanted to get up on the bed with great-grandma.  I obliged.

Important note at this point is that great-grandma will be 94 years old in February.  She looks like most people that age.

Eli proceeded to play with the loose skin hanging off great-grandmas arm.  What a sight.  I think he actually asked her something like, “What’s this?”

She was a good sport.  At least she didn’t run out of bed.

She also told me earlier in the day in a panic that she was dying.  I said, “Yes, but probably not today.”

And then I checked to see if her toes were gray yet.  Learned somewhere that the toes turn a different color right close to the end.  G-gma got a kick out of that one.  Really.  No joke, she’s still got some humor in there.

Anyhow, we’re happy to have her so close so that we can visit her often, but said that it came about this way.
